Torrey AndersonSchoepe is the West Coast manager who oversees the Yahoo and AOL editorial team that powers the two sites’ home pages and apps at Verizon Media. She also leads the team’s notification innovation strategy and is the representative working with product and engineering teams on developing and improving internal tools. Prior to Verizon’s acquisition of AOL and Yahoo, Torrey was hired to build up the West Coast front page team for AOL.com. She developed a strategy that grew page views by 10 million in under a year and led editorial innovation for emerging platforms. After both companies were acquired by Verizon, she helped lead the transition by creating a new system to integrate Yahoo and AOL editorial teams, workflows, and tools.
Torrey started her journalism career copy editing for the Irish Independent, then became a digital editor at Yahoo News where she managed news coverage, launched Katie Couric’s Tumblr and created a successful explainer video franchise, which resulted in $1MM+ in ad sponsorships. She also led an international project to create a global breaking news dashboard tool with editorial and product teams.
She’s a board member for Fluidmaster, Inc., which manufactures toilet parts and accessories across the globe with a distribution network that reaches over 80% of the world’s population and spans over 90 countries.
Torrey has a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, and a minor in Business from the Marshall School of Business. She is a member of the Online News Association and enjoys mentoring young students interested in careers in journalism and technology.
